Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust goes live with MAXIMS eObservations (eOBS) in Emergency Department

We are delighted to announce that Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust successfully went live with MAXIMS eObservations in the Trust’s Emergency Department on 27th April, marking an important milestone in the continued use of digital technology to support safer, more efficient patient care.

MAXIMS eObservations (eOBS) is a fully mobile solution that enables nursing staff to record patients’ vital signs at the bedside using an iPad, with results available to clinical teams in real time. The solution supports nurses in their day-to-day workflows while also transforming how doctors access and review patient information.

By capturing observations directly within MAXIMS eOBS, clinicians can view a patient’s vital signs and NEWS2 scores in one place, eliminating the need to locate paper charts across a busy Emergency Department. This improved visibility of patient information supports faster clinical decision-making and the earlier identification of patient deterioration.

Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of IMS MAXIMS’ longest‑standing customers, having first gone live with the MAXIMS Patient Administration System (PAS) in 1992. More than three decades later, the Trust continues to work in close partnership with IMS MAXIMS as it extends the use of digital solutions across clinical settings.

This go live reflects strong collaboration between Emergency Department colleagues, digital teams, partner organisations and IMS MAXIMS. Teams worked closely throughout planning, preparation and deployment to support a smooth and successful transition into live use within a highly pressurised Emergency Department environment.

MAXIMS eObservations will be extended into inpatient areas, building on the momentum of the Emergency Department deployment and supporting consistent, connected observation workflows across the Trust - a significant step forward in improving the visibility of patient information and helping ensure patients receive the best possible care.
