The digital success achieved by Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust (TSFT) and their technology partner IMS MAXIMS, was celebrated at the HTN Awards last night, as they won the prestigious ‘Case Study of the Year’ Award.
Recognised for the improvements to patient care, financial savings and clinical engagement made at the Trust since deploying the IMS MAXIMS electronic patient record (EPR) – MAXIMS – the judging panel praised the joined-up approach between supplier and customer in an extremely competitive category. The project’s intention to blueprint its learnings and share it with other organisations was also a deciding factor in winning the award.
IMS MAXIMS has been working with TSFT for the last 3 years to help them achieve their ambitions to transform the delivery of care, reduce costs and provide greater control over their software development and deployment.
In that time the Trust has been able to make the processes for admission, transfer and discharge of patients more efficient and coordinated with the help of real-time bed management and discharge planning. The EPR will also save the Trust £600,000 a year by the end of 2018 and they are on course to achieve the Government’s Digital NHS agenda. And as the MAXIMS community grows, the software will advance more rapidly as benefits are shared between users.
TSFT was contracted by Government to become a Global Digital Exemplar (GDE) in 2017 as a result of its digital ambitions and work with IMS MAXIMS. The hospital is subsequently receiving funding to accelerate the delivery of their technology roadmap, including paperless nursing, e-prescribing, clinical decision support, medicines management and integration with local GP systems. As a GDE they will also be blueprinting their work for other Trusts to make rapid progress in digitisation.
Responding to the news, Shane Tickell, CEO, IMS MAXIMS, said:
“It is always so rewarding to help hospitals use technology to transform the way they treat and care for patients. Our work with Taunton and Somerset is particularly special, because of the progress we’re making in the Global Digital Exemplar programme and joint plans to share best practice with the wider NHS community.
Winning Case Study of the Year is the icing on the cake and a great way to end another successful year with the Taunton team.”
