MAXIMS Generic Rich Clinicals

MAXIMS Clinical is a suite of fully integrated clinical and administrative web-based solutions that have been designed to provide an information-rich workspace for all healthcare professionals to record and view patient information. The entire range of optional modules are fully integrated, and work together to provide a complete and comprehensive EPR (Electronic Patient Record).

The information can be viewed by any authorised healthcare professional, with appropriate access rights as controlled by a hospital or healthcare organisation.

IMS products are proven, meet all UK National Health Service security requirements, and are entirely compatible with the relevant UK Government standards. MAXIMS Clinical can connect to a client's existing hospital IT systems, using standard HL7 interfacing protocol or to third-party bespoke interfaces via an integration engine.

The products are web based and deploy innovative user interface techniques, for example, free-hand drawing on body maps to highlight and describe symptoms, by marking or placing icons onto an image.

MAXIMS Clinical architecture is highly scalable, wholly configurable and extremely flexible, enabling any health care organisation to implement the solution in a phased approach, meeting the requirements of evolving clinical audit needs and integration with other projects. A wide variety of clinical specialties are supported by specific modules within MAXIMS Clinical and any number of clinical specialty modules can be added to the core functionality. Ease of use is an underlying design feature.

A healthcare organisation has total flexibility when using MAXIMS User Defined Assessment functionality with MAXIMS Clinical.

New screens to reinforce local clinical needs can be produced by the healthcare organisation personnel; IMS clients have also produced fully working specialty systems. This ensures the resulting product meets all the requirements of locally defined assessments and procedures, which can vary between hospitals.

Key Functionality

All clinical modules share the same common core functionality, consisting of:

  • Security templates and access rights. - User logon is via a valid username and password, set up and controlled by the healthcare organisation.
  • Role based access control - The security functionality allows groups of users to be given specific access rights according to their job function.
  • Session locking and Auto-Logout – Features to protect the security of patient data within the system
  • Patient Search - Finds and selects a patient record by searching through patient names, date of birth, gender, or known identifier number(s) (e.g. NHS number, hospital number). Selects a specific patient to make this the current active patient record.
  • Patient Lists - My Caseload, Ward Lists, Episode Lists, and Clinic Lists – Lists patients within a location or a pre-defined grouping. Ward and clinic lists are driven by PAS activity and are updated automatically.
  • Patient Details - Displays demographics, Next of Kin, and Registered GP and summary patient details. New patient registrations are normally entered through the hospital’s PAS.
  • Patient Summary - Lists all recorded Episodes of Care, Problem Groups, Care Contexts and Clinical Contacts (not PAS episodes) for the selected patient, with summary details. A Care Context may be linked to a PAS episode by the user if required.
  • Patient Allergies - Lists all recorded allergies for the selected patient. Allows new or updated allergies to be entered.
  • Patient Alerts - Lists all recorded alerts for the selected patient. Allows new or updated alerts to be entered.
  • Patient Past Medical History (PMH) and Social History - Shows all recorded PMH details for the selected patient. Allows new or updated PMH details to be entered.
  • Patient Documents - Lists all electronic documents created within MAXIMS for the selected patient, such as discharge summary or letter, GP correspondence, patient correspondence and handouts. Documents are created from locally pre-defined templates.
  • Audit - General functionality that the system provides to allow full audit of user access to the system and all changes to patient data.
  • Coding - Clinical data items may be coded using SNOMED, CT and READ3 terms.

Benefits

  • Simplified use, as information is presented in a concise and meaningful navigation bar.

  • Improved efficiency and reduced risk as users have easy and immediate access to all patient information, including historical data. Full monitoring & review by clinical staff of all care delivery.
  • Supports management control, as assessment and monitoring of procedures and activity undertaken is provided through the reporting tools.
  • Immediate, intuitive and efficient access, to up-to-date patient information using a standard web browser (IE6) to view and maintain data.
  • Improved user performance and assistance with care delivery process, as screens can be set up to match workflow and working practices for each class of user.
  • Immediate access to supporting data through the use of the “drilling down” technique.
  • Quick, intuitive and structured data entry ensured by the use of dialogue boxes containing drop down lists.
  • Reduced training overload through the use of a web based system.
  • Rapid and easy deployment via local and wide area networking, through the use of internet browsing technology.
