Innovative healthcare software provider IMS MAXIMS and Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust are to share the story behind the successful deployment of the UK’s first open source electronic patient record (EPR) at eHealth major industry event, EHI Live.

The trust’s director of information, Malcolm Senior, and the CEO of IMS MAXIMS, Shane Tickell, will address delegates in the digital health industry for the first time since the go-live of the system last month. The joint presentation, which takes place in Theatre D, 10am, Tuesday 3rd November will reveal how both organisations worked collaboratively throughout the deployment, resulting in high levels of clinical engagement.

IMS MAXIMS is also exhibiting at the show, highly regarded as the UK’s leading exhibition for all those involved in digital health, hospital information and healthcare innovation, on stand A44, Hall 1, NEC Birmingham on Tuesday 3rd and Wednesday 4th November.

The event provides the company with a platform to discuss how the deployment of Taunton’s new open source EPR will help the trust’s staff deliver better patient care through improved access to information. The IMS MAXIMS team will be on-hand to provide demonstrations of the powerful functionality within openMAXIMS, the firm’s open source solution set.

Speaking in October about the go-live, Senior said the NHS now, more than ever, needs to make the most of precious hospital resources: “For me, openMAXIMS represents an affordable, flexible system that will deliver the functionality we need. Our clinicians have found it intuitive to use and have taken to it very well.”

Now in its eighth year, EHI Live attracts visitors and delegates from around the UK and beyond, who are keen to listen to industry figures and investigate new technologies.

The exhibition gives visitors the chance to see the best that NHS IT suppliers have to offer the health service, as it gets to grips with the need to save money while improving patient access and quality.

Shane Tickell, CEO of IMS MAXIMS said: “EHI Live is one of the leading events within the healthcare technology industry and arrives after a major milestone in healthcare IT, not just for us as a company, but for the NHS as well. The open source approach for hospital systems has been met with some uncertainty, but the achievements at Taunton demonstrate that by adopting a true partnership with shared responsibility between a trust and a supplier, great things can be achieved.

“This is just the start of what will be a fascinating journey for Taunton as it digitalises its clinical processes to improve patient care. We are keen to share the experiences of working closely with our colleagues at the trust and provide our perspective on what the next generation of patient care flow software looks like. ”

Among the keynote speakers at the event are NHS England’s director of patients and information Tim Kelsey, Beverley Bryant, director of digital technology at NHS England; and Andy Williams, chief executive of the Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC).
